Shots Fired After Officers Struck by Fleeing Vehicle

Suffolk County Police Department is investigating an incident during which a police officer fired shots at a vehicle after a police officer was struck by a suspect’s vehicle as it fled the scene of an attempted larceny investigation.

The vehicle, a 2014 Dodge Charger, traveled northbound on Route 112 and was located a short time later on Flores Lane in Middle Island.

One occupant fled the scene and one occupant was questioned and then transported to a hospital for treatment of cuts from glass that was broken when the vehicle was shot.

The man who was driving the vehicle at the time it was located, Sheldon Davis, 43, of Coram, was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated. He is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip today.

The officer who was struck by the vehicle was transported to a hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The other officer was taken to a hospital for evaluation.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
