Pedestrian Killed in Brentwood Hit and Run Crash

***UPDATE*** Suffolk County Police have arrested a man who was involved in a hit and run Friday. Major Case Unit detectives arrested Cesar Velasquez on March 25 for a crash resulting in the death of Jose Reinerio Salinas in front of 274 Washington Ave., Brentwood. Velasquez, 54, of 50 Jefferson Avenue, Brentwood, has been charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Death. Velasquez is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on March 26.

Incident:         Pedestrian Killed in Brentwood Hit and Run Crash

Location:        In Front of 274 Washington Ave., Brentwood, New York

Date/Time:     Friday, March 24, 2017 at approximately 11:20 p.m.

Suffolk County Police Major Case Unit detectives are investigating a hit and run crash that killed a pedestrian in Brentwood last night.

Jose Reinerio Salinas was walking southbound in the middle of the road in front of 274 Washington Ave. when he was struck by a vehicle traveling southbound that fled the scene at approximately 11:20 p.m. The victim was lying in the northbound side of the road when he was then struck by a 2003 Ford Expedition. The driver of the Ford, Juana Cartagena, stayed at the scene.

Salinas, 41, of Washington Avenue, Brentwood, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. Cartagena, 46, of Brentwood, was not injured.

The vehicle that fled the scene was described as a full size SUV with possible front driver’s side damage.
