NYS Assemblymen Fred W. Thiele Jr, Andrew R. Garbarino, Chad A. Lupinacci, and Joseph S. Saladino join Assemblyman Dean Murray in honoring Officer Verdi
(Albany, NY) New York State Assemblyman Dean Murray (R,C,I- East Patchogue) honored Suffolk County Police Officer Joseph Verdi in Albany today. Murray was joined by Leslea Snyder, Deputy Director of Legislative Affairs for Governor Cuomo, as they recognized Officer Verdi for his valiant act to protect innocent victims from an alleged drunk driver traveling the wrong way on New York State Route 27 (Sunrise Highway) during the early morning hours of January 28, 2016. As the driver continued to travel the wrong direction, Officer Verdi first slowed traffic behind him and then placed his cruiser directly in the path of the oncoming van, putting his own life at risk to stop the oncoming vehicle. Luckily Officer Verdi sustained only minor injuries during the crash.
“Officer Verdi is the true definition of a hero and his selfless acts exemplify the best traits that our police officers embody,” said Murray. “As a father of five with a sixth on the way, he is a role model for us all. It was my genuine pleasure to honor this hero today.”
