MELVILLE – Melville Park Road / Sunday, November 23, 2014 at approximately 11:15 p.m.
Suffolk County Police have arrested a Bay Shore man for unauthorized speed contest and unlawfully fleeing a police officer.
Second Precinct Officer Jesus Faya responded to Melville Park Road in Melville at approximately 11:15 p.m. on November 23 and observed approximately 60-70 vehicles gathered along the road and two vehicles were preparing to race. The spectators fled after Officer Faya’s arrival. Officer Faya stopped Fernando Romero-Alvarado, one of the two drivers engaged in a race, near Maxess Road in Melville.

Alvarado will be held overnight at the Second Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on November 24.
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
