Man Arrested for Shooting West Babylon Man

WEST BABYLON – In front of 4 Lamberta Court / Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at 5:30 p.m.

Suffolk County Police have arrested a man after he shot another man in West Babylon yesterday.

An ongoing dispute between two groups led to a large gathering in front 4 Lamberta Court. Several subjects became involved in a physical altercation which resulted in a 19 year-old man sustaining a gunshot wound to his leg. The victim was transported by a friend at the scene to a local hospital for treatment of a non-life threatening injury.

Police responded to the scene after a 911 caller reported shots fired but the suspect and victim had already left the scene. An investigation by First Squad detectives determined that Devon Smith- Martin was responsible for the shooting and he was arrested a short time later.

Smith-Martin, 19, of 4 Lamberta Court, West Babylon, was charged with Assault 2nd Degree and Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree. He was held overnight at the First Precinct and was arraigned today at First District Court in Central Islip.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
