Man Arrested for DWI Following Fatal Three-Car Crash

COMMACK – Jericho Turnpike at Commack Road / Friday, November 28, 2014 at approximately 4:15 a.m.


Karl Njerve was driving a 2011 Lincoln Town Car westbound on Jericho Turnpike when his vehicle was struck by a 2000 Jeep, driven by Louis Muicela, which was traveling northbound on Commack Road at approximately 4:15 a.m. The Jeep then struck a 2006 Nissan that was stopped at a red light on southbound Townline Road.

Njerve, 42, of Port Jefferson Station, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. Muicela, 38, of Central Islip, was treated for minor injuries at Huntington Hospital and charged with Driving While Intoxicated. The driver of the Nissan, Carmen Lee Choy, of East Northport, was not injured.

Muicela will be held overnight at the Fourth Precinct and will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip tomorrow.
