Adult Home Resident Killed, Roommate Arrested in Lake Ronkonkoma

Lake Shore Adult Home, 211 Lake Shore Drive, Lake Ronkonkoma on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at approximately 10:15 a.m.

Suffolk County Police have arrested a man for killing his roommate at an adult home in Lake Ronkonkoma this morning.

During a welfare check, staff members at Lake Shore Adult Home, located at 211 Lake Shore Drive, found Francis McCaffrey unresponsive in his room at approximately 10:15 a.m.

Further investigation by Homicide Squad detectives revealed Roger Diamond repeatedly struck McCaffrey, 82, causing his death.

Diamond fled the scene and jumped out of a second-floor window, approximately15 feet from the ground.  Diamond was admitted to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Diamond, 73, was charged with Murder 2nd Degree and will be arraigned at a later date.

The cause of death will be determined by the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

The investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information to call the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
